TOPIC: FILLING A VACANCY.
BIBLE READING: ACTS 1:15-26

MESSAGE
A prophetic declaration of David in the Psalms gave a divine authority to the filling of a vacancy that would open, courtesy of “Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus”. Judas committed suicide and so left a vacuum in “his place of leadership” to be filled by another. The qualification set for the new choice was companionship with Jesus Christ and an eye-witness experience of Jesus’ resurrection. The disciples presented a proposal based on this criterion. Two men – Joseph called Barnabas and Matthias – qualified. They prayed for divine guidance. Afterwards they cast lots, which fell on the latter.

The process of filling this particular vacancy gives us a cue. The disciples employed prayer and communal selection in order to make the appropriate final choice. The importance of the apostolic ministry necessitated the choice made. God always works in such a way that a round peg fits into a round hole. He will never choose people who are without experience and prior preparation to represent Him.

Note that filling a vacancy in kingdom work requires the acquisition of appropriate skill, experience and integrity. The Holy Spirit will only work in anyone who is faithful, make available the vacuum of your life and make you suitably qualified to fill a vacancy in the kingdom.
Shalom.

PRAYER: Lord lead us right to choose in the right dimension. Amen.
